On Saturday, March 3, the Junior World Fencing Championship started in Cairo.
On the very first day of the competition on the tracks of the Central Sports Complex in Cairo, the piggy bank of the Ukrainian team was replenished with an award. Bronze pin up received in the junior category saber fencer Valeria Prochenko.
Note that in the 1/4 finals, the victory in which guaranteed a medal, a 20-year-old athlete from Nikolaev forced the owner of five awards of the last three world championships, Mexican Natalie Botelho, to lay down her arms. In the semifinals, the Ukrainian met Chung Ha Yong from South Korea. During the fight, with the score 7:5 in favor of Prochenko, the Ukrainian twisted her leg. Prochenko brought the meeting to the end, but lost with a score of 13:15.
